Most of this has a fix you can do yourself in a few minutes, and I would rather tell you how than take your money for it. Work down this page. If something here solves it, you are done and you owe me nothing. If it turns out to need a bench, you will know that too, along with what it actually costs.
Nothing on this page asks you to download anything from me or click a link you do not recognise. That is deliberate. Getting talked into running a stranger's program is one of the most common ways a machine gets infected in the first place.

Genuinely try these before you pay anybody, me included. Each one solves a common problem.
It got slow over the last year or two
Restart it properly first, a full shut down rather than closing the lid, because a machine left sleeping for weeks accumulates junk. Then open Task Manager with Ctrl-Shift-Esc, click the Startup tab, and disable everything you do not recognise and did not install on purpose. Nothing there is required for Windows to boot. This alone fixes a startling number of slow machines and costs nothing.
It is loud, hot, and slows down after ten minutes
That is almost always dust, not a failing part. A computer that cannot breathe deliberately slows itself down to avoid cooking. Shut it down, unplug it, take it outside, and blow out the vents and fan with compressed air. Do not use a vacuum and do not spin the fan with the air, hold the blade still with a finger. If it is quiet and fast again afterwards, that was the whole problem.
Pop-ups, or the browser opens pages you did not ask for
Open your browser's extensions list and remove anything you did not deliberately install. That is where the majority of this lives. Then reset your homepage and default search back to what you want. If ads appear on the DESKTOP or over other programs rather than only inside the browser, that is deeper than an extension and is the $99 job.
Wi-Fi drops in one room, or every evening around the same time
Unplug the router, wait a full thirty seconds, plug it back in. If the drop happens at the same time each evening it is congestion, not a fault, and the fix is changing the router's channel rather than paying for faster internet. Also try moving the router off the floor and out of a cabinet, since both cost nothing and fix more than people expect.
It will not turn on at all
Work outside-in and cheapest first. Try a different power outlet, then a different cable or charger if you can borrow one. On a laptop, hold the power button down for a full thirty seconds with the charger unplugged, then plug in and try again. If you get lights or fans but no picture, the computer is probably alive and the screen or the cable is not, which is usually the cheaper problem of the two.
Files or photos have disappeared
Stop. Do not run cleanup tools, do not install recovery software, and if Windows asks to format the drive do not let it. Every minute a machine keeps running can overwrite the exact data worth recovering. Shut it down and leave it off. This is the one problem on this page where doing something is worse than doing nothing.
Is your hard drive actually dying?
A worn out drive is the single most common cause of a slow older computer, and no web page can measure it. What you can do in about two minutes, free, is check it yourself.
Download CrystalDiskInfo from its own official site at crystalmark.info. It has been the standard for this for twenty years and it is what I use on my own bench. Open it and look at the box in the top left labelled Health Status.
Good means the drive is fine and your slowness is something else. Caution means it is failing and you should back up today, not this weekend. Bad means back up right now and stop using it for anything you care about.
Text me that one word and I can tell you what it means for your machine and what it would cost, before you commit to anything. I am pointing you at somebody else's free tool rather than my own download on purpose, because you should not be running programs from a business you just found online, mine included.

Is this really free?
Yes, and there is nothing to sign up for. The fixes below are the same ones I would walk you through on the phone. If one of them solves it, you are done and you owe me nothing. I would rather be the person who told you the truth for free than the person who charged you $79 for a five minute job.
Why would you tell me how to fix it myself?
Because most of what comes across a bench is not complicated, and charging for a ten minute fix is how repair shops earn the reputation they have. The jobs worth paying for are the ones that genuinely need parts, tools, or hours. Telling you which is which up front is the entire pitch.
Do I have to download anything?
No, and I am not going to ask you to. Downloading and running a program from a business you just found online is exactly how people get scammed, and I am not going to train you into that habit. The one tool this page names is CrystalDiskInfo, a free program that has been the standard for twenty years, and the link goes to its own official site rather than to mine.
What does the instant check actually see?
Only what your web browser is allowed to tell any website: roughly how much memory you have, how many processor cores, whether Windows is 32 or 64-bit, your graphics chip, and whether there is a battery. It runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to me. It cannot see your drive health, your files, or your temperatures, because no web page can.

What if my computer is not worth fixing?
Then I will tell you that, and it will not cost you anything to hear it. Certain budget machines from roughly 2013 to 2017 have memory soldered at 4 GB and eMMC storage instead of a real drive, and no repair helps those. If yours is one of them I can usually tell from the model number before you drive anywhere.
